Running for More: A Note from the RUNGRL Founders

Y’all. We’re exhausted and our hearts are heavy.

We know you’re feeling it, too, plus a dozen other emotions that are hard to put into words. Yet, in the absence of words rings the countless names of our sisters and brothers who have lost their lives to pure ignorance, hate and fear fueled by systemic racism.

With national protests against police brutality and the murders of Black people, plus a global pandemic that is still spreading, it is hard to find ways to nurture our physical, psychological and emotional wellness.

Running is our release. Whether we run towards clarity or away from the heaviness that we’re all currently experiencing, the action alone is our activism. We run through the pain, hurt, tears and overwhelming emotions that seem endless. Even if for just a few minutes, we do it for ourselves, as a reminder that we are here and we matter. Black Lives Matter.

Though Global Running Day is intended to collectively share our love of running, we know that today’s run is going to feel different. Because we can’t just run for the love of it, we’re running for more.

Running for justice.

Running for healing.

Running for Black lives.

As RUNGRL, we are with you on the run and will continue to use our platform to tell stories that honor the lives and experiences of Black women--especially the importance of our well-being to ourselves, our families and our community.

In solidarity,

Dominique Burton, Stephani Franklin, Na’Tasha Jones, Ashlee Lawson Green, Jasmine Nesi, Natalie Robinson

RUNGRL 021 | The Resistance

The revolution is now. Hit play on this protest music and push the pace of change. The road ahead for us is long and hard, but just like with any run, when we keep the cadence steady and moving we can get to the other side. Keep your head in the game and stay in the fight, sis. #BlackLivesMatter
